I speak on the immigration issue in churches quite regularly, and one of the the things that I've observed is that, though I usually spend most of my time talking about the biblical reasons I think we're called to welcome immigrants, the questions are usually all about economics. There's a persistent belief that immigrants are a drain on the economy, even though most economists will tell you that's not the case, and many business owners will tell you how vital immigrants are to their business both as employees and also as consumers. Why do you think these rumors are so persistent?
